Urbanscape: Literary, Visual and Musical Representations

This year, our journal is inviting contributions from different perspectives of looking at the town or city where independent thoughts on exploring the diverse  colours of literature, cinema and other forms of visual representations that are viewed through the urban ‘lens’ will be appreciated. It is our pleasure to inform that the focal aspect of considering urban spaces in literature, cinema and other representations are intended to involve writings which view the urban space as a dynamic aspect of urbanization. The manifestation of the urban space in literature, cinema and others as the identification of social features associated with institutional arrangements and social networks, necessitating efficient social order, is to be considered. In addition, the diversity in social roles and relationships which conceptually and practically fall under the scope of literary, cinematic and other symbols of the urban space is also to be taken into consideration. Therefore, we look forward to be enlightened by writings that will take into account both the synergistic and structural perspectives of space, the former identifying ‘urban’ as an effect of institutional and social forces related to urbanization, and the latter contrastingly recognising ‘urban’ as the outcome of social relationships and structures that typify urbanization. Collectively, they form the intrinsic urban aspects of literary, cinematic and various other forms of art, which are further exemplified here, as food for thought for the contributors:

2. Internalizing of urban space in literature
3. Reconsidering ‘Ruins Discourse’ and the ‘social’ Abandoned Spaces
4. Representation of the City-space over Time
5. Urban space in Cinema
6. Cinema and the Digital City
7. The role multiplexes play in remodelling Indian urban spaces
8. Reshaping Space, Image and Representation
9. Mobility of the Urban Space in other arts
10. Changing modules of music in representing “urbanity”- both in terms of instruments used and lyrics penned for songs

Articles should be within 2500-2800 words. Follow the MLA 7 style for citations. Do not use footnotes, use end notes if necessary. It is preferable that the article should have 3-4 references atleast. Please include your Contact no. and e-mail in the paper in the top left hand corner of the title page.

The last date of submission for the articles is 31.12.2015.
Intimation of acceptance/rejection of the article: 5th Jan, 2016.

The Journal will not charge any fees in any form whatsoever. However, those who wish to get the journal couriered will have to pay for the charges, the amount and mode of payment of which will be communicated to the contributor at the time of delivery
